Stucco Repair

HomePRO has been the Sacramento area’s stucco repair specialist since 1996, helping thousands of homeowners, business owners, real estate agents, and contractors. We repair every type of stucco damage and are experts at matching existing textures so repairs disappear into the wall.

What is stucco repair?

Stucco repair is the process of fixing cracks, holes, stucco leaks, impact damage, and deteriorated areas in a cement-based exterior wall finish, then matching the original texture and color so the repair blends invisibly with the rest of the home. When a stucco water leak is involved, a lasting repair also corrects the flashing, building paper, or drainage plane behind the finish.

Preventative Maintenance For Your Home

By Matt Stevenson, HomePRO

Published in the March 2021 issue of El Dorado Hills Neighbors, this article explains how routine exterior inspections, stucco crack repair, caulking, and gutter maintenance can prevent water intrusion and costly structural damage.

Warning signs to watch for

  • Cracks wider than 1/16 inch, especially at window and door corners
  • Spider-web or map cracking across large areas
  • Bulging, loose, or hollow-sounding sections of stucco
  • Staining, efflorescence (white mineral deposits), or peeling paint
  • Crumbling or soft stucco near the foundation line
  • Gaps where stucco meets trim, flashing, or penetrations

Common causes we find

  • Foundation settling and seasonal soil movement
  • Water intrusion behind the stucco membrane
  • Improper original installation or missing control joints
  • Impact damage from vehicles, hail, or landscaping equipment
  • Previous repairs done incorrectly with the wrong materials

How we do it right

  1. 1

    Inspection & diagnosis

We inspect the damage and the surrounding wall system to determine whether the problem is cosmetic or a symptom of water intrusion or structural movement.

  2. 2

    Honest written estimate

You get a clear scope of work and price. If we find evidence of hidden damage, we explain exactly what we see and what it means.

  3. 3

    Proper repair, not a patch

We cut back to sound material, repair the underlying paper and lath when needed, and rebuild the stucco in correct scratch, brown, and finish coats.

  4. 4

    Texture & color matching

Our craftsmen match your existing texture — a skill that takes years to master — so the repair blends with the rest of the wall.

Stucco Repair questions, answered

  • Are stucco cracks normal or serious?

Hairline cracks under 1/16 inch are common as stucco cures and the home settles. Cracks that are wider, growing, diagonal from window corners, or accompanied by staining can indicate water intrusion or movement and should be professionally inspected.

  • Can you match my existing stucco texture?

Yes. Texture matching is one of our core skills. We replicate the original application technique — dash, lace, sand, smooth, or custom — so the repaired area blends with the surrounding wall.

  • How long does a typical stucco repair take?

Small repairs are often completed in one to two days, allowing for proper cure time between coats. Larger repairs involving the underlying paper, lath, or framing may take several days. We give you a schedule up front.

  • Should I just caulk or paint over stucco cracks?

Surface treatments hide the symptom but not the cause. If water is getting behind the stucco, sealing the surface can actually trap moisture in the wall. Have cracks evaluated before covering them.
